MacTaggart

The MacTaggart neighbourhood is located in southwest Edmonton and forms the southeast boundary of the Terwillegar Servicing Concept Design Brief (SCDB). MacTaggart is one of 7 neighbourhoods planned for the Terwillegar SCDB. The MacTaggart Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan (NASP) was approved by City Council in 2005 and construction of the new neighbourhood began shortly thereafter, and is still underway.

MacTaggart is bounded by MacTaggart Road to the north, Rabbit Hill Road to the west, Whitemud Creek Ravine to the east, and the Anthony Henday ring road to the south. The neighbourhood is planned to have a mix of single and semi-detached housing, row housing, stacked row housing and low rise apartments. A school and park site will be built in the northeast corner of the neighbourhood. The MacTaggart neighbourhood is located to the southeast of Terwillegar Towne, which incorporates commercial amenities and services along 23rd avenue. The Leger transit centre and new southwest recreation centre are also located along 23rd Avenue.

The MacTaggart neighbourhood takes its name from Sandy Auld Mactaggart, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist with provincial, national and international achievements in business, the arts, and education. Sandy Auld Mactaggart was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1928 and moved to Canada at the age of 1.
